Google is constantly adding new features to its Wallet app, and in countries where the law allows it, it even allows it to offer digital copies of driver's licenses, ID cards, or transit cards. But now it's bringing a change that will affect all of its roughly 250 million users. It's rolling out a major redesign of the app that began rolling out in August. It should be visible to almost everyone by now.

Google Wallet This time, the update does not bring any new features. But it will still look completely different than before. Google has focused on individual pages loyalty cards, ID cards a boarding passes and makes them more modern, clearer and, most importantly, more colorful. Which may not be to everyone's taste and I personally don't like the strong red, green or blue colors affecting the entire screen area at all. I find them garish and distracting and I would like to cancel them. Which fortunately I can do, because Google strangely enough, it allows return to old design with the help of the rewind icon. At least for now.

But I have to admit that the new card pages in Google Wallet are now significantly more readable and all the essential information is finally visible at a glance. It has long been a mystery to me why Google is trying to imitate the small card design when it has such large displays. Now everything has been enlarged and most people will be fully satisfied. Except for the aforementioned colors, which will probably become the subject of considerable user criticism for a while or will completely discourage many from using this new feature.

Further simplification of settings

I also appreciate that Google allows you to access additional card data simply by by sliding your finger across the screen. And if you are not satisfied with something, you just have to go to Settings and edit, for example, the nickname or the control method. Which was of course possible before, but it was necessary to use the menu with three dots.

New design comes with app version Google Wallet 26.32.962917069 and the rollout took several weeks. In addition, people in countries where it is possible have recently received the update from Google Play Services, which allows you to upload travel passes intended for paying the fare. And in USA recording options continue to expand driving licenses, which unfortunately is not yet possible in Europe. But I hope that one day we will see it too.
