You walk past a Samsung brick-and-mortar store or step right into it and your smartphone Galaxy suddenly sends you a notification about the latest great offer or discount? You might think it was just a coincidence. But the truth is, it's no coincidence. Behind this behavior is one of the services that the Korean giant embeds directly into its devices.
This service is called Samsung Visit In and its job is to recognize your location near branded stores and serve you targeted advertising. The good news is that if these marketing notifications bother you, there's an easy way to stop them.
How to check if the service is active on your phone?
Before you start setting up, you can simply check whether the Samsung Visit In service is available for your account and region (the procedure applies to the add-on One UI 9.0):
- Open Settings.
- At the top, tap your Samsung account.
- Select the menu Samsung apps and services.
- Search for an item Samsung Visit In.
If the service is not supported in your area, the app will inform you directly on this screen.
How to turn off ads and block Samsung Visit In
Since this is a system service, you won't find a regular icon for it on your desktop or in the app drawer that you can long-tap on. You have to navigate to it through the advanced settings:
- Go to Settings→Applications.
- Click on menu/filter icon next to your list of apps.
- Turn on the option Show system applications and confirm.
- Find and tap the Samsung Visit In app in the list.
Now you have two options:
- Turn off notifications: Select Announcement and turn off the corresponding switch.
- Complete deactivation: At the bottom of the screen, tap the button Turn off and confirm.
