Android tablet users who use Google browser Chrome, will soon receive a small but very welcome fix. Google is working to fix a Picture-in-Picture bug that caused the audio to continue playing even after closing the floating video window.
At first glance, this is a small thing, but in everyday use it can be quite annoying. For example, if a user was watching a video on YouTube in mode PiP and then closed the small window, Chrome on some tablets continued to play the audio in the background. So pausing playback required another step – open the app, stop the video manually or find the playback controls in the notification bar.
In theory, this is not a risky bug, unless, for example, you are watching sensitive content that is not suitable for children and you try to quickly turn it off. So Google suspects that it should bring a fix as soon as possible.

Interestingly, the same behavior does not occur on Android phones. Closing the PiP window here correctly also means ending playback. The difference is probably due to a special browser setting Chrome for devices with larger screens, especially tablets.
Google had been using an experimental feature on tablets for some time that was supposed to better support media playback on larger devices. But in practice, it had the opposite effect – Chrome interpreted the window closing only as hide video, not as a clear request from the user to stop playback.

Developers Chrome have already prepared a change that corrects this behavior. After closing the window Picture in picture should the browser be new automatically stop audio playback as well, just like it works on phones.
The fix is currently being tested. in the Canary version of Chrome 153.0.7991.0It still has to go through additional Dev and Release testing before it reaches all users. BetaIf everything goes smoothly, it will also arrive in the stable version of the application later. But it may take a few more days or weeks.
It's these kinds of small mistakes that can make the difference between a tablet acting as a full-fledged alternative to a computer or just a bigger phone. And Google shouldn't hesitate.
