Samsung released its first augmented reality headset last year and is trying to compete with it Apple Vision Pro. Galaxy But the XR has limited global availability and its sci-fi look will appeal to a select group of users. That's why Samsung has decided to move into a different segment and is working on several variaNow it has also been revealed that it is developing a third type of device, which will look like a cross between glasses and a headset.

Headset successor Galaxy XR should be lightened, and not just in appearance. There is speculation that it will literally be Lite version, which should be more affordable. And even though it will offer fewer features, it may attract a larger number of users. Now it has appeared patent application with the code US 2026/0118685 A1, which clearly shows Samsung's new vision.

If this patent is true (which it may not be, as Samsung has thousands of patents, including those it has never used), it will Galaxy XR 2 (whose Galaxy XR Lite) will look like an XR headset from the front and like smart glasses from the side or back. In addition to a large mask covering half of the face, it will have classic legs like glasses. This could ensure more comfortable wearing and easier putting on.

Technical details Galaxy XR Lite

The patent application also records several key technical parameters. Samsung according to them, they plan to equip the headset with an active settings system IPD, whose function is to automatically align the lenses according to the user's eyes, using small motors. It also says about a pair of VST cameras, four surveillance cameras and central depth sensorThe motors are supposed to be in a vertical position, which means the device could be surprisingly light and thin.

Samsung has not yet confirmed that it is developing this type of headset. Considering that it has only just filed a patent, the work is still in its early stages. The South Korean giant is working much more aggressively on its Galaxy Glasseswhich should be released in at least two variantach and we should see the first ones this year. However, this is a completely different type of device, because glasses rely mainly on practical use at home, at work and on the street. In contrast, the XR headset is designed mainly for home use.

I'm curious myself when (and if) the lightened Galaxy XR. It is an interesting product that could interest even those who would otherwise consider a monster like Galaxy They reject XR. It could allow augmented reality to infiltrate more people's living rooms and become an integral part of our lives - much like artificial intelligence is quietly becoming one.
