Gmail is the most popular email service in the world, used by around 2 billion people. That's why Google is constantly working to improve it and add new features. But sometimes it nestMany of us use Gmail to log in to various other services and applications that send out various emails with gusto – and despite being divided into categories, our inbox can quickly become overwhelmed with various confirmations, spam, newsletters and other unnecessary messages. Fortunately, there is a simple trick to help you get your inbox organized again.
gmail you can reorganize yourself in a few basic ways. Ideal help has become category, which Google added recently and you can find them in the worse inbox bar. Thanks to this, messages from social networks, newsletters or promotional emails no longer appear in the Inbox. All of these have their own, clearly separated pages, and you only see the truly important messages in front of you. You can ignore the rest with a clear conscience.
You can make your mail even more organized when you start using labelsThey have been available in the desktop version for about 10 years, but Google only added them to the Gmail mobile app for Android. a few weeks agoThanks to them, messages can be grouped by sender or topic, making it much easier to search for older emails or attachments later.
The third fundamental option is marking with stars. Just tap this symbol on a received message and you will see clearly what is important in your mail. If you combine all three of these options, Gmail becomes much clearer. But it may not be enough and you may still be wasting a lot of time searching. Fortunately, there is another trick that is incredibly simple, yet extremely effective.
Plus addressing in Gmail
Right in Gmail There is another tool available for better mail management. It is called plus addressing and the principle is absolutely primitive – you add to a specific email address before the at sign the + sign and add the desired text to it. Although this effectively changes your email address, Google will handle it and ignore the addition when sending. But in your inbox sorts emails systematically by text after the + sign.
For better understanding, let's give two specific examples:
- When ordering a new mobile phone Galaxy S26 Ultra For example, instead of the usual address yourname@gmail.com, you enter the address yourname+shopping@gmail.comThis will allow you to receive order confirmations and other emails from the merchant, but they will be neatly grouped under the Shopping label. And they will not appear in your Inbox.
- When you sign up for a newsletter on an interesting blog, you enter your email address. yourname+newsletter@gmail.com and subsequent messages will arrive outside the Inbox again, under the appropriate tag.
The principle is that Google delivers messages completely correctly, but when sorting them, it does not follow the sender's address or the subject, so bypasses common filters and categories, and immediately sorts them into labels according to your wishes. Then, when you are looking for a specific email, you know where to go and how to easily find it. Your inbox is not filled with unnecessary purchase confirmations or three similar emails about sending a package. And your mail is finally clearer.
Good tip. I've been using this for a long time when I register somewhere. I usually add the name of the service as a plus. Thanks to that, I know who shared my email with someone - it's happened to me twice and that's how I recognized it.
I can't find the categories in the worse bar of the gmail page. Can someone tell me? Skálová, where should I look for them?
