Samsung is not only an electronics manufacturer, but also the world's largest chip manufacturer. In addition to producing its own processors for its mobile phones (most recently the Exynos 2600), it also creates DRAM chips. Now it has introduced the most advanced of them, namely LPDDR6. This memory chip is 21% more energy efficient than its predecessor and also offers higher performance. However, we will most likely not see it in the upcoming flagship series Galaxy S26.
Chip L directly follows LPDDR5X, is manufactured 12nm process and reaches speed up to 10,7 Gb/s. For comparison, LPDDR5X only handles 8,5 Gb/s, but we can still find it in the latest mobile phones and laptops. For those released in 2026, LPDDR6 is therefore a hot candidate. And in addition to various global manufacturers, Samsung will probably use it directly, according to latest news but it doesn't seem like it's in Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra.
In addition to higher performance and greater energy efficiency, the LPDDR6 chip will also offer improved security. This will also be very important for users. In the new series Galaxy Additionally, the S26 could be paired with more advanced storage UFS 4.1, so mobile phones would also be able to use the chip Exynos 2600 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 could be unexpectedly powerful. So they probably won't be, although it's possible that Samsung will change its strategy, or at least that will apply to the upcoming foldables.
Samsung's new memory chip also has intelligent dynamic power management system, making it ideal for flagship smartphone models that rely primarily on AI computing. Samsung has not yet officially shown it, but it will likely do so in January at the fair CES 2026. He has already received an award from its organizers for the LPDDR6 chip in advance 2026 Innovation Award Honoree in the category Mobile devices, accessories and applications.
