Samsung finally officially unveiled its long-awaited augmented reality headset this week Galaxy XR. This is intended to compete directly with the headset Applu Vision Pro, but it costs almost half as much. But that's not the only difference, there are many more. Here are 5 main differences between the two devices.
Display and optics
Galaxy The XR boasts a micro OLED display with a resolution of 3,552×3,840, 27 million pixels, a 90 Hz refresh rate and 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, so everything looks bright and sharp.
Apple Vision Pro it also has micro OLED displays, but "only" with 23 million pixels, but with a 120Hz refresh rate and slightly less color coverage. The headset relies on a 3D imaging system, while Samsung focuses on wide viewing angles and vivid colors to make the visual experience as immersive as possible.
Design and construction
Galaxy The XR has a clean look, dominated by a silver color, and a rear headband that nicely balances the weight. The headset weighs around 545 grams, so it's relatively lightweight. Vision Pro In its updated version with the M5 chip, it is also available in silver, but uses a new 3D knitted top and bottom strap for greater comfort.
Both headsets feature an external battery, which reduces the weight of the front. The simpler design from Samsung makes it easier to put on during everyday use, while the design from Applu is more aimed at professionals who need comfort during prolonged use.
Chipset and memory
Galaxy The XR is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, coupled with 16GB of RAM. It runs on the new Android XR operating system. Vision Pro on the other hand, it is equipped with a chipset Apple M5 with a 10-core processor and 10-core graphics unit, 16 GB of RAM and an R1 chip for processing data from sensors in real time.
Apple The M5 is objectively faster than the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, both in terms of processor performance, graphics, and "neural". On the other hand, the software limitations of the system visionOS 26 may prevent it from reaching its full potential. However, from a purely hardware perspective, the clear winner is the representative Appyou. Galaxy Additionally, the XR only comes with 256GB of storage, while Apple Vision Pro up to terabyte.
Battery life
Samsung states that Galaxy The XR lasts up to two hours of normal use and about two and a half hours of video viewing. Apple Vision Pro lasts a little longer – about two and a half hours with normal use and up to three hours with video playback. Battery from Applu connects magnetically, while Samsung's connects via a wireless charging port on the side.
Cameras and sensors
Galaxy The XR features a 6,5MP multi-camera with 3D photography and video recording capabilities, along with six other cameras, four eye-tracking cameras, and a depth sensor. Vision Pro also uses 6,5megapixelIt has stereoscopic cameras, but adds a LiDAR sensor and a TrueDepth camera.
Both headsets support iris recognition for security and come with multiple microphones for surround sound. Camera lineup Galaxy The XR is solid for the price, but the extra sensors give its competitor more precise tracking and smoother blending.
Price and availability
Galaxy The XR is available in the US and South Korea from October 21st for $1,799. That makes it much cheaper than Vision Pro, which sells for $3,499 in the base 16/256 GB version. Given its older release date than the first model, it is already available in more markets.
