If you share a YouTube Premium family plan with friends or relatives who live outside your immediate area, you're in for a big update. The popular video platform has started enforcing a rule that requires all members of a Premium family plan to live at the same physical address.
The move signals a significant shift from passive policy to active practice. The “same household” requirement has existed for years, primarily in YouTube’s terms of service. Now, the service has begun sending direct warning emails to users who appear to be violating this rule. The ultimatum is clear: the family manager must confirm that all members share the same address within 15 days of receiving the email.
Anyone who ignores this warning will quickly lose the Premium benefits of ad-free video playback, offline downloads, and background playback. Their account will essentially revert to standard. (free) level YouTube with ads.
