Samsung to launch new foldable phones in July Galaxy Z Fold7 to Z Flip7. Our first impressions from the first one mentioned were extremely positive, we were especially impressed by its very thin profil. Now it's time to look at the new Z Fold pretty close up and you probably won't be surprised that we'll be praising it a lot in the review. But it also has some weaknesses, or is it proA perfect puzzle? You will find out in the following lines.

Package contents: Only the essentials

Galaxy Z Fold7 comes in an elegant black square box, which is, however, poor in content. There is only the most necessary, that is, in addition to the phone itself, a USB-C charging/data cable, a clip for pulling out the SIM card drawer and several manuals. On the other hand, we could not have expected a charger in the package, as the EU regulation on electrical waste prohibits it in smartphone boxes. However, Samsung could have at least included a protective film for the flexible display with the phone. A premium device simply deserves something extra in the package, the Korean giant should finally realize this.

A design delicacy

Samsung has been criticized in recent years for not offering a flexible phone line Galaxy Z Fold It kind of rested on its laurels and didn't bring any major innovations. This was especially true in terms of design and construction, with the Korean giant's jigsaw puzzles being too thick and heavy, especially compared to its Chinese competitors.

Last year Z Fold brought welcome partial improvements in this regard, which its successor has brought, if not to perfection, then at least very close to it. When closed, its thickness is 8,9 mm (vs. 12,1 mm) and when open only 4,2 mm (vs. 5,6 mm), making it the world's thinnest folding computer. Samsung also announced this year's Z Foldu prescribed a hearty diet – year-on-year, the phone "lost weight" by 24 g to 215 g, which is only 3 g less than the current top flagship of the Korean giant weighs Galaxy S25 Ultra. You almost don't feel it in your pocket. As for the notch on the flexible display, it's a little less visible year-on-year, and if you don't focus on it, you won't even know it's there.

Galaxy Z FoldThe 7 also boasts high durability – the outer display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 2 and the back by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The frame is made of highly durable aluminum called Advanced Armor. The phone otherwise meets the IP48 protection level, which means it can withstand dust particles larger than 1 mm and immersion to a depth of up to 1,5 m for 30 minutes. Let's add that, according to Samsung, it can withstand up to 500 folds (for the predecessor it is "only" 200 thousand).

However, the polished design and construction took a toll, which is the lack of stylus support. S Pen. A digitizer that would allow reading inputs from the screen cannot be placed in such a thin body. S Penu. That's certainly a shame, but if we had to choose between a thin body and support S Penu, we would always choose the first option, which has a greater impact on the overall user experience. Moreover, it is not excluded that the next Z Fold will be S Pen support, proSamsung is reportedly working on a new technology that would allow the stylus to work without a digitizer.

Bigger screens mean more fun

Galaxy Z Fold7 has slightly larger screens year-on-year. The flexible one has a full 8 inches (vs. 7,6 inches) and the outer one has grown from 6,3 to 6,5 inches. The resolution of both has also increased – the flexible one is 1968 x 2184 px (vs. 1856 x 2160 px) au external 1080 x 2520 px (vs. 968 x 2376 px). Both are of the Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X type, supporting variabil refresh rate with maxThey have a 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2600 nits, so they are beautifully readable even in the brightest sunlight.

Thanks to the increased diagonal and 21:9 aspect ratio, the external display is practically used like a regular smartphone, and typing on it is also more comfortable year-on-year. You can use it to do a lot of things and you won't have to open the phone as often..

Flagship performance

Galaxy Z FoldThe 7 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the same one used by Samsung's current flagship lineup. Galaxy S25. This means that its performance is atprotop-notch, capable of smoothly running even the most graphically advanced games (including ones like Shadowgun Legends or NFS No Limits) and none proIt doesn't even have a problem with demanding multitasking. Of course, it processes artificial intelligence tasks quickly. Nothing in the system lags or slows down, everything runs like butter, which is also related to the optimization of the superstructure based on Android 16. One UI 8.

The very high performance is also confirmed by the numbers from popular benchmarks. In Geekbench 6, the device scored 2956 points in the single-core test and 9406 points in the multi-core test. (oprothose predecessors are about a third increase) and in AnTuTu new Z Fold reached 2 points (year-on-year increase of approximately 19%). Let us add that we tested variantu with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage.

Camera: 200MPx sensor doesn't make that much difference

Galaxy Z Fold7 is equipped with a triple camera with a resolution of 200, 10 and 12 MPx, with the main one borrowed from the current Ultra, prothe middle one is a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and the third one serves as ultrawide-angle lens with a field of view of 120°. What about the quality of the photos? 200MPx camera (the predecessor had 50 megabytespixelmy) is not so well known in practice, probecause they both use merging technology pixeland by default they take pictures in 12 MPx resolution. However, the pictures are proexamination a little more detailed and more true to color, especially at night.

However, at night we were disappointed by the quality of the wide-angle lens, which proprints insufficiently sharp images (despite having autofocus), and in poor lighting the photos are completely dark, so unusable. The telephoto lens is then usable up to 3x optical zoom, from 10x digital zoom it is no longer possible to talk about photos, but about smaller or larger screeds. During the day the situation is much better, there even 20x digital zoom is usable (max(at least the lens can handle 30x), the "wide-angle" works just as well - here the difference isprothose nights are glaring.

The main camera can record videos in up to 8K resolution at 30 frames per second, but it is better to use the 4K/60 fps mode for greater smoothness. The video quality is very good, the recordings are sharp and detailed, have a wide dynamic range, and in terms of colors, they have become a little more realistic compared to last year. The perfectly working image stabilization is also pleasing. It should be noted that the phone records videos in 10-bit HDR quality as standard.

At night, the quality of videos drops rapidly, and there has been no improvement year-on-year. The phone has a large proproblems with focus, recordings are quite noisy, details are lost and they don't look good at all. Perhaps the only plus is that they don't "drift" in color that much.

One UI 8: In the sign of partial improvements

Superstructure One UI 8 does not bring as many new features as One UI 7, theproThe new feature focuses more on improving the overall user experience and increasing security. The biggest news is the redesigned feature Quick Share, improved Now Bar, Android 16-based DeX desktop mode, more secure Secure Folder, new split-screen option (ratio 90:10) or easier file search in the My Files app. Learn more about the biggest news One UI 8 you can learn hereLet's add that Samsung has a new Z Foldu promises seven years of software support, i.e. seven Android upgrades and seven years of security updates.

As with its predecessor, you can have up to three applications running on the flexible display at the same time, and there is also Flex mode, where the selected application appears in the upper half of the flexible display and the lower one is displayed. proturns into a touchpad with controls, which is useful for example when editing photos or playing videos. Of course, there is the option to switch between multiple and standard display.

Battery life could be better

Galaxy Z Fold7 draws its power from a 4400 mAh battery, so nothing has changed here year-on-year. And practically nothing has changed in terms of endurance, despite a slightly more economical chipset. On average, the phone lasts a little over a day on a single charge, but with a lot of use you may have to reach for the charger during the day. Honestly, we would expect significantly better endurance for a device with such a high price tag. But to be fair, it is actually a minor technical miracle that it managed to fit such a thin body "to stuff" the samea large battery like last year's Z FoldFor example, with such a Galaxy S25 Edge If this fails, he hasproto the basic model Galaxy S25 smaller battery (even if only by 100 mAh – 3900 mAh).

In terms of charging performance, nothing has changed year-on-year either, the phone only supports 25W "fast" charging. That's really impressive for such an expensive phone, even selected models in the series can handle faster charging these days. Galaxy A. From 0–100 % The device charges in less than an hour and a half, which is unbearably long for today. Let's add that the phone supports 15W wireless and 4,5W reverse wireless charging.

The perfect puzzle?

As can be seen from the above lines, Galaxy Z FoldWe really liked the 7. We didn't even think about it anymore, but Samsung outdid itself and served us an almost perfect puzzle. Pro"almost perfect" and not "perfect"? ProIt simply has some flaws that we cannot easily overlook. First, there is the lack of support S Penwhich is a shame for a device with such a large internal display, secondly the quality is unconvincing ultrawide-angle lens at night and the quality of night video, and compared to other smartphones, the battery life is rather below average and the charging is slow. However, these shortcomings are clearly outweighed by the positives, whether it is the refined design and low weight, high-quality large displays, extremely high performance, very good photos in both light and dark from the main sensor, or the tuned procenter with a number of improved features.

Galaxy Z FoldThe 7 is simply a joy to use, however, as with previous models in the series Galaxy Z Fold it is also true that it is not intended pro ordinary user. It is primarily a management tool that can replace a tablet or laptop in some respects. This is also reflected in its price, which is much higher than that of standard smartphones. In the Samsung store, it specifically starts at 48,990 CZK for variantu 12/256 GB and ends at 58 CZK for variantu 16 GB/1 TB. For others proHowever, it is possible to buy the phone significantly cheaper. Finally, let us add that is available in three colors, namely dark bluewhich we tested, black and silver.
