Stable Android 16 is out now, and many users are eagerly awaiting its new features. There will probably be plenty of them, and Google plans to gradually add more and more. However, owners of foldable phones will probably not be very happy. The interesting multitasking tool, which they would use wonderfully on their large displays, will be left only to tablets or desktop applications.
Android 16 will allow thanks to design change to Material 3 Expressive better use of large screens of foldable phones, on which users will be able to, for example, run full-size applications. Which will be very effective. But it was expected that Google would also allow opening applications in floating windows. That would be more practical, allowing you to have multiple titles open at once and easily switch between them. And even though foldable phone screens directly invite this, their users won't get to experience this great multitasking feature.
Google confirmed the portal Ars Technica, that floating windows for launching applications will only be available on tablets. Their introduction to puzzle games is not planned yet. And it's not just about mobile phones from competing manufacturers, for example Galaxy Z Fold6 or Galaxy Z Fold7 – Google won't even give this ability to its mobile phone Pixel9 Pro Fold.
If you want to multitask, it's better to work on a computer. Google new also preparing a desktop version variaAndroid, which allows you to transfer your work between your phone and your monitor. But not always. Although Desktop Mode will be part of Android 16, individual phone manufacturers may handle it in their own way - and may not even offer it to you. The notable exception is Samsung, which has supported desktop mode for a long time.
…individual mobile phone manufacturers…
Oh yeah, the Czech one again.
