Psychological films often leave the strongest mark on viewers. They are not about action scenes or frantic chases, but about tension, moral dilemmas or the human psyche. These films often force the viewer to think and analyze. Based on the ČSFD ranking, we have compiled ten psychological films that are among the best that this genre has to offer. It should be added that the list below does not directly discuss the ten best films according to the ranking. We have included in the list those (with two exceptions) that are available on available video streaming services. As for Apple TV+, there the movies are available for purchase or rental, not for streaming as part of a subscription.
10. It's my life too – 82% (Apple TV+)
A drama that explores the ethical and emotional boundaries of parenthood. When parents genetically "program" their 11-year-old daughter Anna to be an organ donor for her terminally ill sister, an emotionally powerful story full of questions unfolds. In addition to Cameron Diaz, the film also stars Alec Baldwin.
9. Adelheid – 83,5% (OnePlay, Apple TV+)
František Vláčil's film is set in post-war Czechoslovakia. The story deals with the relationship between a former Czechoslovak officer and a German woman, Adelheid, who is the daughter of a Nazi.
8. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? – 84,1% (Apple TV+)
A psychological drama starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, which takes place almost entirely in one room. The viewer witnesses a destructive marital relationship. The film received 5 stars.carat.
7. Telephone booth – 84% (Apple TV+)
In the western part of Manhattan, there is perhaps the last closed phone booth left. An arrogant media executive calls aspiring actress Pam from it every day at the same time. However, on the last day before the booth is to be demolished, two seemingly innocent things happen that turn the main character's life upside down.
6. Ear – 85% (OnePlay)
The story is about a married couple during a single night when they begin to realize that their apartment may be bugged. Starring Jiřina Bohdalová and Radoslav Brzobohatý.
5. Disappearance – 86% (Currently not available to stream)
Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal star in a suspenseful story about the disappearance of little girls. The parents desperately seek justice while the police struggle with a lack of evidence. Although it is not available on the available services, I recommend finding your way to it somehow. It is a great movie.
4. Memento – 86% (Currently not available to stream)
Christopher Nolan is a mark of quality. The main character struggles with memory loss and searches for his wife's killer. Another must-see film.
3. Good Will Hunting - 88% (Apple TV+)
Will, a brilliant young man, works as a janitor at MIT, hiding his genius. It is only with the help of a psychologist that he begins to discover his own worth and fight his inner demons.
2. The Incinerator – 88,5% (Netflix, Apple TV+, OnePlay, Canal+, iBroadcast)
Karel Kopfrkingl, played by Rudolf Hrušínský, is perhaps one of the most terrifying characters in Czech cinema. The film probably needs no introduction.

A psychological thriller starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman. Two detectives search for a serial killer who kills according to the seven deadly sins.
